e algumas impressões sobre a aquacultura.

1) What do you thinking of this event?

Very interesting, and impressive in size, all very well organized

 
2) Which importance of this event for the growth of aquaculture in Brazil?

Growth of aquaculture is a question of market and policy exxenttially, but sustainable growth needs to be

 supported by sound science, to improve efficiency and benefits while limiting possible negative impacts. 
there selective breeding has a role to play.

 
3) What are the similarities and diferences between Brazil X France in the aquaculture? 

we both rely mainly on an exotic species (rainbow trout in France, Tilapia in Brazil), but while aquaculture 

in France is stagnating or even diminishing, its growth rate in Brazil is very impressive. 

 
4) And about the differences which one do you recommend to be implemented in Brazil.

I think it is important to have a good management of genetic diversity of stocks in Brazil

 (including proper domestication of native species), and that there are many opportuunities for selective breeding

 
5)  Would you like to do a short summary about the domestication and selectivebreeding      
of especies and their importance for aquaculture.

Most aquaculture species are only a few generations away from the wild. There is obviously much to gain by 

domestication af fish adapted to farming. Moreover, experience in fish selective breeding shows that there is 
moch room for improvement on many important traits.

 
6) For aprimorate Tilapia development which genetics modification you suggest?

It is not genetic modification, but genetic improvement. Growth has already been selected, and it could 

be important to focus one more important (but also more difficult) traits like fillet percentage, tolerance to
 low oxygen, feed efficiency.
 
7) Wich area of aquaculture still needs more researches?

All do. There is no area where we have all necessary knowledge. of course nutrition is very important, 

but also genetics, physiology of growth and reproduction. Working on systems is also very important, 
because this can generate important gains in t-erms of efficiency and ienvironmental impacts.
